Love Island’s Mike Boateng ‘accused of telling a girl, 17, he’ll “show her a good time”‘

Love Island star Mike Boateng has been accused of telling a 17-year-old girl that he can ‘show her a good time’ while in his police uniform.

The allegations come from Aaliyah Read, now 18, who has also boldly claimed that Mike, 24, asked for her number and instead took her Snapchat details during the alleged incident in Cheetham Hill, July 2018.  

Aaliyah added that she complained to the Love Island star’s Manchester force boss at the time and the allegations are ‘still under investigation’. Mike is said to have ‘strenuously denied any wrongdoing’.

The 18-year-old, who was 17 at the time, told The Sun: ‘He came over to me and said, “Come with me and I’ll show you around Manchester. I’ll show you a good time”. 

‘He asked for my number. I said my phone was broken, the SIM card wasn’t working, so he asked for my Snapchat. I gave him it and he got back in the car and left.’

With Aaliyah’s mother, Kinda, adding: ‘I was disgusted to see him on Love Island while under investigation.’ 

The publication claims that Aaliyah complained to Mike’s Manchester force boss at the time with the investigation, which was launched that month – July 2018, said to be continuing when he ‘resigned’ to join the winter series of Love Island.

Aaliyah is said to have received a letter saying it ‘did not meet the test for a criminal inquiry’ but was a ‘potential misconduct matter’.  

It also been alleged that the force were in touch with Aaliyah and her mother Kinda to warn them Mike would be on television ahead of his Love Island debut.   

MailOnline has contacted ITV and Greater Manchester Police for comment.

The force told The Sun: ‘Allegations were made regarding an officer in 2018 and 2019 which are currently under investigation by the Professional Standards Branch. 

‘It is inappropriate to comment further whilst the investigation is ongoing.’

Ahead of his appearance on Love Island, Mike said of his former role: ‘I did resign to come on the show.

‘But I spoke with the chief Ian Hopkins and thank God we’ve got a good relationship. So he has left the door open for me to come back if I do want to come back.

‘The general consensus, “Don’t do anything stupid.”‘ 

It comes after it was reported over the weekend that Mike is allegedly being investigated by Greater Manchester Police for ‘improper conduct’ during his time working with them.

According to a report from The Sun on Saturday, the former policeman, 24, is part of an ‘ongoing’ inquiry, an allegation his family has slammed as they accused the force of racism and discrimination.

A source speaking to the publication about the reality star claimed: ‘Mike says he left the police to take part in Love Island. But it was more likely the real reason was he was facing improper conduct charges.

‘It seemed like he had serious allegations hanging over him. If ITV were aware of this situation, it’s astonishing that they allowed him to take part.’

‘After all, they have a duty of care to all of the show’s contestants,’ the source added.

It was reported by The Mirror that Mike is being investigated by the Greater Manchester Police’s professional standards department, allegedly for driving without a licence – an allegation Mike is said to deny.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman told MailOnline: ‘We can confirm that in 2017 a serving officer alleged that he had been subjected to racist behaviour during his initial training with Greater Manchester Police.

‘Five officers were placed on restricted duties while the allegations were thoroughly investigated by the Professional Standards Branch. 

‘As a result, the five officers were dealt with under the Unsatisfactory Performance Procedure, which is set out in the Police Performance Regulations of 2012.

‘There is absolutely no place for racism within GMP. It is important that all our staff are treated fairly and with respect and we have made significant improvements to the diversity of our workforce over recent years. 

‘However we realise the damage these instances can cause and we apologise for any suffering this matter has caused him.’

Regarding the investigation for ‘improper conduct’ the spokesman continued: ‘Previously we received media inquiries in relation to a separate investigation by the Professional Standards Branch into the conduct of a former GMP PC whilst he was a serving officer.

‘In respect to these inquiries, we confirmed that allegations were made regarding an officer in 2018 and 2019, which are currently under investigation by the Professional Standards Branch. These include a complaint from a member of the public.

‘We wish to be clear that any allegations must be investigated thoroughly and we must be fair to both those that have made them and those which are subject to them. There should be no presumptions made until all enquiries have been completed and decisions made.

‘It would be inappropriate to comment further while the investigation is ongoing.’  

MailOnline also contacted representatives for Love Island for comment. 

In a statement shared to Mike’s Instagram, his family said the Love Island star had been ‘subject to discrimination’ during his time in the police force, and the claims were ‘false’.

Writing that they believed the allegations was ‘a clear attempt to tarnish Mike’s character’ they slammed the Greater Manchester Police for not denying the investigation was taking place.

They added that they were ‘disheartened’ by the fact that they had ‘not risen to Mike’s defence’ in light of the claims.  

The statement continued: ‘Mike no longer works for Greater Manchester Police as he resigned after filming introductory videos in preparation for Love Island.

‘Mike showed nothing but dedication to GMP. He joined believing the force represented honesty and integrity.’

Going on to discuss the alleged racist incidents that Mike had reportedly been the centre of while in the police force, they added: ‘Whilst working for Greater Manchester Police, Mike was subject to discrimination by officers including an incident where he was called a gorilla during a training session.

‘This is a documented incident that took place. The officers involved in these incidents were not sacked, however relocated to different departments.

‘Mike has not once spoken out against the police and always tried to portray the force in a positive light. 

‘His hope was that in him joining the force, people from BAME backgrounds would in turn join, ensuring diverse representation within the organisation.’

Mike’s family added that he wasn’t ‘forced or pushed out of the police’, and clarified that he had resigned after deciding to go on Love Island.

They concluded that if the allegations were true then ‘Mike would have been sacked as a result of them, which he wasn’t.’
