Lucy Mecklenburgh loses four stone after ‘listening to her body’

Lucy Mecklenburgh has discussed her four-stone post-pregnancy weight loss in an exclusive interview with MailOnline.

The former TOWIE star, 28 credited her slimmed-down figure to ‘just listening to my body’ after welcoming son Roman, four months, with fiancé Ryan Thomas, 36, just 10 days before the UK was plunged into lockdown amid the COVID-19 crisis.

After years of following a strict fitness regime, the new mum – who will serve as a panellist for WaterWipes Early Days Club LIVE event on Wednesday – declared her baby boy is ‘my priority now’ and enthused she’s ‘in awe’ of what she’s achieved by giving birth.

‘I didn’t do any diet or quick fixes’, the online influencer told us as she touched on her healthy lifestyle.

The media personality explained how she didn’t feel ‘pressured’ to return to exercising four times a week once her doctor gave her the all-clear to workout again.

Lucy explained: ‘I didn’t put pressure on myself and had good nights’ sleep. I just listened to my body and I needed rest.

‘For the first two months, I did the odd bit of walking. I try to get one nutritious meal in the day, not just coffee and biscuits which I would probably have if Ryan wasn’t such an amazing chef.

‘I tried to do 10 minute stretches a day and ease into light workouts at home – I haven’t got any big golden thing that gave me the weight loss.

‘I thought after my eight week check when I got the all clear [to exercise] I would have been back to training four times a week, but I just thought to myself “I’m tired, when I get an hour free, I either want to spend it by having a nap or it’s extra play time for Roman. There’s always something else that needs doing”.’

Admitting the things she once considered as paramount in her life have shifted, the TV star added: ‘It is important to stay fit and healthy to have some me-time, but when you have a newborn, you just want to sleep and spend time with your child.

‘Priorities do change, I don’t have time to train four times a week like I used to, but that’s fine. My life is different now, Roman is my priority, not the gym!

‘I’m currently working on email for my fitness company two days a week, a lot less than before. Right now, Roman is my priority, he’s not even five months yet – he takes up a lot of my time!’

During her time in the limelight, Lucy has always boasted an enviable figure, but the former Tumble contestant has shared the reason why she’s more proud of her body now than ever before.

‘In a weird way, I’m in awe of my body and how it’s grown a baby and recovers’, the Havering beauty gushed.

‘You have this whole different appreciation for what your body can actually do rather than just how you look. I definitely feel very comfortable. I feel proud of my body for creating my gorgeous baby boy.’

Since becoming a parent, the businesswoman has detailed her journey with her social media followers.

She told how her open nature has had a positive effect on fellow mums, particularly when it comes to breastfeeding.

Lucy said: ‘Every mum and baby are different, everyone is on their own journey. It’s your choice and I’ve chosen to breastfeed.

‘There is obstacles but I just share my story in the hopes that it helps other mums, and it has. This isn’t me preaching to anyone, but this is just the journey I’ve chosen.

‘I’ve had a couple of midwives message me telling me they’ve seen a rise in the number of mums who breastfeed because they’ve seen me do it on Instagram.

‘They were a bit scared before and hadn’t really seen a lot of people who breastfeed, but they saw my Instagram, screenshot my posts and told the midwives they wanted to give breastfeeding a go.

‘That made me feel really happy. I hadn’t breastfeed in public before as we were in lockdown, but so many mothers supported me with that.’

'I call them the mum police!' Despite being met with warm responses from fans, being candid online hasn't been all plain-sailing for the former model who has been judged by trolls

Despite being met with an overwhelmingly warm response from her fans, being candid online hasn’t been all plain-sailing for the former model, who has confessed she feels judged by trolls.

She added: ‘I was shocked as when I was pregnant the mum police had an opinion everything. Roman has tongue tie and a milk allergy so it means I can’t have any diary products in my diet which is really hard.

‘His rash disappeared, he might be teething and wasn’t himself. I wish he could tell me what’s wrong!’

In June last year, former Coronation Street actor Ryan – who also shares daughter Scarlett, 11, with ex Tina O’ Brien – popped the question to the brunette beauty following a two-year relationship.

On whether they’ve started planning their wedding, the fitness enthusiast laughed: ‘To be completely honest, there’s been no movement on the wedding front. All my time is on Roman, I’m just focusing being a mum.

Lucy will share her experience of being a first-time mother during a Zoom event with WaterWipes on Wednesday.

Teasing details about the campaign, the media personality said: ‘The campaign is about Water Wipes’ early days club. It’s a Zoom talks with celebrities and healthcare specialists who are all parents.

‘It’s about having kids and the highs, lows and very messy side of motherhood. It’s a really open and honest space for parents to have a laugh about what goes wrong and for people to not feel alone.’

Lucy Mecklenburgh is a panelist for WaterWipes Early Days Club LIVE event for new and expecting parents on Wednesday 29th July at 11am. Lucy is joined by host comedian, Ellie Taylor and panelists Ore Oduba, Dr Stephanie Ooi and wellness expert, Caroline Foran.
