A luxury superyacht has been completely destroyed in a massive blaze after the boat exploded in a ball of fire sending enormous plumes of black smoke into the sky.

The luxury boat was docked in Hamilton Island, in the Whitsundays north east of Queensland, when a blaze erupted onboard at about 10.40am on Monday.

Queensland Fire and Emergency crews were called to Marine Terrace marina as huge plumes of black smoke spewed from vessel.

Flames engulfed the luxury yacht as clouds of thick, black smoke billowed into the air blanketing nearby boats.

Footage shows two people on an inflatable boat circling the front of the yacht desperately trying to extinguish the flames.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) were called shortly after the blaze broke out and headed to the Hamilton Island marina.

It’s understood no one was onboard the luxury boat when the fire broke out and there are no reports of anyone injured.

A QFES spokesperson said firefighters were still trying to put out the flames shortly before 1pm as water started to fill the boat.

The fire has reportedly been contained to the superyacht with no present concerns it would spread to neighbouring vessels.

The cause of the fire remains unknown.

Hamilton Island is a luxury holiday destination off the coast of Queensland near Airlie Beach.
