Madonna sings Like A Prayer while Gigi and Gisele live it up with A-list fashion crowd at Met Gala

Madonna surprised guests at Monday’s Met Gala as she put on a post-dinner performance.

The 59-year-old singer appeared in the Great Hall at the Metropolitan Museum of Art walking down some steps flanked by monks.

In a clip taken and edited by Vogue the crowd can be heard cheering as the pop icon begins to belt out Like a Prayer.

Taking to Instagram Madonna shared a snap of her in a white sheer dress mid-performance on the steps.

She captioned it: ‘With The Light on the Steps of the Met! #jeannedarc #metgala #hallelujah #catholicimagination #heavenly. @guyoseary’

Meanwhile Gigi Hadid shared a giggle with fellow supermodel Gisele Bundchen.

The 37-year-old Brazilian beauty looked stunning in a pale yellow gown.

This time last year Selena Gomez was escorted to the Met Gala by boyfriend The Weeknd who she started dating shortly after his split from Bella Hadid.

But as the songstress bumped into Bella’s sister Gigi at this year’s bash there was no sign of awkwardness as the duo were spotted hugging.

The ladies are both recently single after Selena’s rekindled romance with Justin Bieber ended and Gigi split from boyfriend Zayn Malik.

Selena, 25, beamed a big smile as she hugged the catwalk model wearing a custom Coach gown.

Bella, who is usually by Gigi’s side, was nowhere to be seen during the exchange.

It was a different picture last year as Selena had made her red carpet couple debut with the Starboy hitmaker.

In October it emerged the couple had split as photos of Selena with ex-boyfriend Justin surfaced.

Inside the Met Gala the VIP guests looked fabulous in their ‘Sunday Best’ inspired outfits.

This year the gala takes on a religious theme: Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.

The current exhibition examines ‘fashion’s ongoing engagement with the devotional practices and traditions of Catholicism’, combining works of fashion with works of religious art, including 50 ecclesiastical masterworks on loan from the Sistine Chapel sacristy at the Vatican.
