MAFS 2019 groom Sam Ball reveals he fell off a roof and impaled himself

A Married At First Sight contestant was rushed to hospital last weekend, after falling off a roof and impaling himself on a wrought iron fence.

Samuel Ball, who is appearing on next year’s season of the Channel Nine show, told Daily Mail Australia he was left with a ‘massive hole’ in his leg as a result of the accident.

Recalled the horrifying moment, the 26-year-old gym enthusiast said he had to ‘wriggle’ himself off the 25cm spike before ambulances arrived.

The accident took place on Saturday night in Sydney’s Alexandria, as Sam and some friends were planning to head to dinner.

Sam explained he was on his roof because he had locked his keys inside the house and didn’t want to call a locksmith, so was trying to find another way inside.

After losing his footing, the tradesman fell two metres and straight onto the fence below, with the spike going 25cm through his hamstring.

‘At first I didn’t say anything… I wiggled myself off which I shouldn’t have done as it made it so bad,’ Sam said, recalling the immediate aftermath of the fall.

‘And then when I got off, I just started bleeding like crazy.’

Sam said his friends sprung into action and tried to keep him calm, as one of them called Triple Zero and asked for an ambulance.

‘Three ambulances and two police cars showed up and they started pumping blood through me as I had lost so much blood,’ he said.

‘I was close to blacking out, but it was more from the shock.’

Sam was taken to Sydney’s Royal Prince Alfred Hospital where he went straight into surgery.

‘Luckily I didn’t do any major damage to the arteries and stuff but my hamstring, where I had been impaled, it went straight through the hamstring and veins. It has left a massive hole in my leg pretty much,’ he added.

Sam revealed the surgery has been successful but he expects that it will be months until he fully recovers.

In the meantime, he can barely do anything and struggles to even put on a sock.

‘I’ve got crutches as I can’t put weight on it. It’s brutal, it’s the worst,’ he said. ‘I’ve had such a rough year. So much has happened, I can’t believe it.’

In October last year, Sam also suffered another serious accident.

He took to Instagram to share a photo of himself wearing an eye patch, saying he had gone blind for five days.

‘I’ve been completely blind for the last five days and in excruciating pain,’ he wrote at the time.

‘Apparently I’ve had ulcers form on my eyes which in turn I have accidentally ripped off whilst being asleep by rubbing them from serious aggravation over weeks, which then has ripped of that many layers that it has exposed the nerves to the surface which I would never wish on anyone in my life!’

‘Don’t take your vision for granted as this has been the worst five days of my life,’ he concluded.
