MAFS Australia: Kate Laidlaw’s twin sister Bec was also set to get married

Married At First Sight EXCLUSIVE: Kate Laidlaw’s identical twin sister Bec reveals she was also set to get hitched on this year’s season

Identical twins were supposed to get hitched on MAFS this year, but producers scrapped the idea at the eleventh hour and opted for just one sister instead.

Nutritionist Kate Laidlaw was unsuccessfully matched with ‘husband’ Matt Ridley on the Nine show, but her twin sister Bec was also supposed to walk down the aisle.

Even though Bec, 38, was keen to take part in the social experiment, the idea was ditched at the last minute without explanation.

‘I was approached by producers and thought why not I guess,’ Bec, 38, told Daily Mail Australia on Thursday.

Both sisters had passed through several stages of the interview process and were set to appear on the show together.

But producers cut off all communication after her medical test.

‘They never got back to me. At least Kate got in. Probably for the best,!’ she laughed.

Kate was brought on the show as an intruder, and was paired with law clerk Matt. Bec briefly appeared on the show as her sister’s bridesmaid.

Identical twins previously featured on MAFS in 2017, the year before the show really took off in the ratings.

Michelle and Sharon Marsh ‘wed’ Jesse Konstantinoff and Nick Furphy respectively.

In 2018, Sharon said the matchmakers needed to make better decisions when pairing participants who live in separate states.

Nine exploited the twin gimmick in adverts and billboards, dressing the sisters in matching wedding gowns and accessories.
