MAFS’ Clare Verrall on why Nick Cummins strung Cassandra Wood along

The Bachelor’s Nick Cummins has faced public criticism for keeping an ‘infatuated’ Cassandra Wood in the competition for so long, despite not seeing a future with her.

And after the 24-year-old was sent home during Thursday’s episode, a fellow reality TV star has offered her theory as to why she was allowed to make it to the final four.

Married At First Sight’s Clare Verrall, 35, speculated that the former Wallaby wanted to send Cassandra home earlier, but was encouraged by producers to keep her around.

Clare, who starred on the 2016 season of Married At First Sight, took to Instagram on Thursday night to give her opinion on Nick’s decision.

She explained: ‘I have thoughts on this whole Cassie-being-sent-home thing. Standard. I have an opinion, okay?

‘My theory [is] the producers would have insisted that he kept Cassie around because they dated in the past and they wanted to ensure he didn’t come across as a prick. So I’m sure that is what happened.’

Clare believed that Cassandra was left heartbroken as a result because she was given the impression that she could’ve had a future with Nick.

‘[The producers] got a young 23-year-old girl who actually thought this was going to be her love story and utterly manipulated her. And it makes me angry,’ she said.

‘So beautiful Cass, I hope you are well. I hope they are looking after you. You deserved so much more than this and you will find your One.’

Cassandra – who briefly dated Nick before filming the show – was sent home on Thursday after failing to receive a rose.

‘We had the best time,’ said Nick as he walked her towards the limousine. ‘It’s not because we don’t get along like a house on fire, we do.

‘You’re an amazing woman, your smile lights up the room. We hit a ceiling on this. I’m hoping we can still be friends.’

‘I just can’t believe it,’ Cassandra said as she left the mansion in tears.

‘I’ve had my heart broken and it sucks and there is nothing I can do about it. Yeah, I didn’t see it coming but it is what it is.’
