Married At First Sight’s Domenica Calarco and Ella Ding reveal which bride had the ‘worst edit’ – and it’s not who you’d expect
Olivia Frazer was the undisputed villain on this year’s season of Married At First Sight.
But according to TV brides Domenica Calarco and Ella Ding, the award for ‘most unfair edit’ doesn’t go to Olivia, but instead Kate Laidlaw.
Nutritionist Kate, 38, was portrayed as cold, ungrateful and totally uninterested in her ‘husband’ Matt Ridley – but Domenica and Ella insist she is actually chatty and friendly in real life.
Having their say: Married At First Sight’s Domenica Calarco (left) and Ella Ding (right) have revealed which bride had the ‘worst edit’ on this year’s season – and it’s not who you’d expect. Dom and Ella are seen here at Australian Fashion Week at Sydney’s Carriageworks on Monday
‘Let’s talk about who got a bad edit, a real bad edit, and that was Kate,’ Domenica, 29, told Yahoo Lifestyle of the intruder bride.
‘Kate is a sweetheart who actually can hold a conversation, and can hold meaningful conversations. So let’s talk about that. Let’s go and support Kate.’
Ella, 28, added: ‘I always stood up for [her] when people would ask, “Is Kate really like that?” and I would say, “No, she’s actually not.”‘
Bad girl: Olivia Frazer (pictured at Fashion Week) was the undisputed villain on this year’s season of MAFS, but Domenica and Ella reckon she didn’t have the ‘worst edit’ overall
Kate, who said in her audition tape she’d never had a boyfriend or been told ‘I love you’, was edited to look like a cold fish on MAFS this year.
She made no secret of the fact she wasn’t attracted to law clerk Matt and nothing would convince her to reciprocate his affection.
In one memorable moment, Kate seemingly ignored her ‘husband’ as he violently choked on a Tim Tam in their apartment, and instead focused all her attention on unpacking her luggage.

Edit: Nutritionist Kate, 38, was portrayed as cold, ungrateful and totally uninterested in her ‘husband’ Matt Ridley – but Dom and Ella insist she is actually chatty and friendly in real life
She later insisted on The Kyle and Jackie O Show she had ‘no idea’ Matt was choking, and would have helped him had she realised the seriousness of the situation.
‘I can’t believe that footage was actually shown, to be completely honest,’ she said, after radio hosts Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson jokingly accused her of wanting Matt ‘dead’.
Kate then offered two seemingly conflicting excuses for her behaviour.
Near-death experience: In one memorable moment, Kate seemingly ignored her ‘husband’ as he choked on a Tim Tam in their apartment, and instead focused on unpacking her luggage
She first tried to claim the scenes filmed in the couples’ apartments were ‘acted’ and not real, before insisting she simply didn’t know it was Matt coughing.
‘These are acting scenes, really… not acting… but we are doing this with cameras on us, and I thought it was a cameraman coughing. So I was in my head thinking, “Just keep going,”‘ Kate said.
‘Actually, watching it back, I thought, “Gosh, Kate. You’re so cold!” she laughed, before adding: ‘But no, honestly, if he was choking I would have jumped to save him.’
What crisis? She later insisted on The Kyle and Jackie O Show she had ‘no idea’ Matt was choking, and would have helped him had she realised the seriousness of the situation
