MAFS star Harrison exposes the grooms’ loose WhatsApp group chat

MAFS star Harrison Boon came perilously close to breaking the bro code on Monday when asked on live TV about his co-star Dan Hunjas’ dating situation.

Harrison was speaking to Today Extra about the fallout from Sunday’s commitment ceremony when he mentioned Dan was dating Brisbane nurse Samantha Symes, months after he and ‘wife’ Sandy Jawanda chose to leave the experiment.

This remark piqued the interest of host David Campbell, who asked if there was any ‘crossover’ between Dan’s ‘marriage’ to Sandy and his romance with his long-time friend Samantha, who was one of the guests at the couple’s televised wedding.

Given the fact Dan and Samantha chose to go public with their relationship weeks ago – when he and Sandy were still very much a couple on screen – David wondered if the pair had started dating in secret while Dan was filming MAFS last year.

Harrison seemed taken aback by the question and initially didn’t quite know what to say, before insisting there was no overlap between the two relationships.

He told David and co-host Belinda Russell that while Dan and Samantha had been friends for a long time, they didn’t become romantically involved until after he and Sandy had ended things during filming around December.

The discussion began with David asking Harrison if the business owner had spoken to him during the experiment about his feelings – or lack thereof – for Sandy.

‘Well, I mean, if you look at Dan’s private life now, he has moved on, he has found someone else. So I feel like what he was saying [to the experts] about compatibility, he has found someone that is more compatible with him,’ he said.

‘Right. Was there any crossover there at all? Do you think?’ interrupted David.

Harrison was momentarily nonplussed by this question, before smiling awkwardly and asking: ‘Any crossover?’

Belinda noticed his hesitation, pointing and saying: ‘Oh, look at his face!’

He then went on to cover for his mate, saying: ‘No, no, not during the experiment… I think they [Dan and Samantha] were friends and then something happened…

‘I don’t know. I can’t speak [for Dan]. I’d give [the scoop] to you if I had it. Honestly, from what I heard from Dan, they were friends for a long time and they never really explored anything until he got out of the experiment.’

Earlier in the interview, Harrison revealed the MAFS grooms had all roasted Dan in a WhatsApp group chat after his exit at Sunday’s commitment ceremony.

The semi-retired marketing boss had repeatedly said he was not compatible with Sandy because she doesn’t love the ocean as much as he does.

He made several references to his 'beach lifestyle' and going back to the ocean, which the experts found bizarre. 'The boys have not let Dan off lightly. The group chat was lit with memes about him returning to the ocean, Dan's head on a dolphin... very funny,' Harrison said

He went on to say he ‘really felt’ for Sandy when she admitted she still had feelings for Dan, while he did not feel the same way about her.

However, he defended Dan as well, pointing out how his friend had tried ‘a hundred different ways’ to communicate to Sandy they weren’t compatible in the long term, but she didn’t seem to understand.
