Mail’s City & Finance team shortlisted for top financial journalism award for our Save LV campaign

The Daily Mail has been shortlisted for the most prestigious award in financial journalism for our Save LV campaign.

The City & Finance team is up for Journalist of the Year at the 2021 Wincott Awards – the industry Oscars, which attracted 111 entries.

We were shortlisted for the campaign to Save LV, which was launched to stop the takeover of the 179-year-old mutual insurer by US buyout group Bain Capital.

The Daily Mail’s City & Finance team’s campaign to Save LV, was launched to stop the takeover of the 179-year-old mutual insurer by US buyout group Bain Capital

LV bosses agreed to sell the historic organisation to Bain for £530million in a deal that would have stripped it of its mutual status and put it under private equity control.

The Mail – with the support of our magnificent readers – argued this was a betrayal of LV’s mutual heritage and bad for the sector as well as for members and staff.

And at a vote in December, the proposal to sell to Bain was voted down.

In a bid to put LV back in safe hands, the Mail is asking members to support a vote of no confidence in chief executive Mark Hartigan and have him replaced with a suitable boss.

Labour MP Gareth Thomas, chairman of the all-party parliamentary group for mutuals, said: ‘The Mail deserves real credit for this campaign.’
