Maisie Smith has revealed secret backstage antics on the Strictly Come Dancing tour where she enjoyed ‘a few bottles of wine’ with judge Craig Revel Horwood.

The former EastEnders actress, 21, appeared on This Morning on Friday alongside Kevin Clifton and was dressed as her character Fran from Strictly Ballroom the Musical Tour.

She looked incredible in a plunging red dress with black lace detail as she spilled on what the cast got up to backstage.

Maisie Smith said: ‘Obviously he was quite a strict judge, but I did get to know him well doing the Strictly arena tour.

‘Especially, you know, after the show at two or three in the morning after a few bottles of wine. I’d be like ‘I’ve really got to know Craig…”

‘But no I was intrigued to see him in a directing role and I didn’t know what to expect but we’ve had a really good time.

Speaking to presenters Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary, Craig revealed he was so amazed by Maisie’s audition that he wanted to book her immediately.

After their interview with the This Morning hosts, Maisie and Kevin took to the dancefloor to perform a segment from the show and were joined by the Strictly Ballroom cast.

Craig, who directs and co-choreographs the musical, admitted it was a ‘no brainer’ to book the pair as part of the production after they starred on Strictly in 2020.

Strictly Ballroom the Musical Tour is based on a 1992 Australian romantic comedy film.

Alison went on to quiz Craig on his favourite couple on Strictly Come Dancing 2022, to which he responded: ‘That’s a really difficult question because every week it’s different.

‘Who surprised you?’ Dermot asked and Craig replied: ‘I love Hamza. There’s so many people I adore.’

He added: ‘I like to see someone come from the dance gutter and work there way up.’

Elsewhere in the interview, Alison asked Kevin about expecting his first child with partner Stacey Dooley.

He said: I can’t believe it. We don’t know what we’re doing. This show is tiring enough I think I’m going to experience a whole new level of tired.’

‘You’ve got a world of pain coming your way you have no idea,’ Dermot joked.
