An eight vehicle pile-up on the M25 has caused massive tailbacks following the crash earlier this morning.
The road has been closed following the incident which took place between Junctions 5 and 6 on the anti-clockwise carriageway in Godstone, Kent.
Severe delays have been predicted for drivers as traffic heading towards the scene of the crash is stationary.
Highways England tweeted out: ‘We’re in the process of clearing the collision and lifting the closure on the #M25 anti-clockwise between J6 (#Godstone) and J5 (#A21/#M26).
‘We’ll let you know when it’s all open. Thanks for your patience today #Surrey.’
Passengers stuck in traffic have tweeted their anger after drivers blocked the emergency lane making it hard for emergency services to access the crash.
One user wrote: ‘Massive accident on the M25, so they shut one lane so emergency services can get to the casualties quicker and the amount of absolute d******ds driving up and blocking the lane just because they are too selfish to think where they are going is more important than someone’s life!’
Another said: ‘So angry at selfish motorists for ignoring lane closed, accident signs & blocking 999 services. Should be a motoring offence. #M25 #accident’
