Final moments of freedom: Makeup free Elyse Knowles steps out with her baby Sunny before Byron Bay is plunged into lockdown

Byron Bay was plunged into lockdown on Monday evening after a man in his 50s travelled from Sydney to the popular coastal town while infectious.

And Elyse Knowles was just one of many residents enjoying her last moments of freedom on Monday afternoon.

The model, 28, was seen running errands with her son Sunny.

The former Block star carried a large eco-friendly bag to do some shopping as she carried her bub on her hip.

Makeup free, she sported a Byron Bay Wildlife Hospital T-shirt teamed with some baggy trousers and a pair of Vans sneakers.

She accessorised with some trendy red tinted sunglasses and some fine gold jewellery.

Elyse cooed over her adorable little one as she strolled around town.

Elyse and her fiancé Josh Barker welcomed Sunny, their first child, together back in February.

As of 6pm on Monday, Byron Bay, Richmond Valley, Lismore and Ballina Shire were plunged into lockdown with restrictions staying in place until at least 12.01am on August 17.

Like in Sydney, everyone in the areas may only leave their home to purchase food, for exercise, medical reasons, to care for a vulnerable person, or for work or education if it’s not possible to do so at home.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian took the drastic step of shutting down the entire Northern Rivers region on Monday over fears a Covid-positive man in his 50s who travelled from Sydney may have spread the virus throughout the community.

Health authorities are trying desperately to uncover where the conspiracy theorist has travelled in the area so they can alert anyone who may have been put at risk.

But so far they have not been able to ascertain where the ‘uncooperative’ man has been despite repeated interviews, with no information appearing on any mandatory QR code check-ins – which he had refused to use.

Local politicians have called the situation ‘ridiculous’ and now fear his refusal to help could see areas including Byron Bay, Ballina, Brunswick Heads, Grafton, Yamba, Casino, Lismore and Murwillumbah and more, remain in lockdown for weeks.

‘He travelled from Sydney with two kids, staying up here in Byron, been out and about a fair amount in the time — it’s disappointing’, Byron Shire Mayor Michael Lyon told the ABC.

‘We’re going through trying to list all exposure sites and work out where he’s been, and he hasn’t been signing in and using QR codes, or any of that, doesn’t believe in it, it’s a nightmare.

‘It’s been very difficult for police and health authorities to track down where he’s been, it’s ridiculous, you have to wonder what people are thinking when it comes to a situation like this.’
