Malaysian man, 27, arrested for ‘HUNDREDS of child porn images and videos on his phone and laptop’

  • The 27-year-old faces an $180,000 fine and/or ten years in prison if found guilty

A man who allegedly had more than 900 images and videos of child abuse material has been remanded until June 29, 2018.

The 27-year-old Malaysian man was arrested at Melbourne International Airport on March 22.

He had flown into the country from Kuala Lumpur when Australia Border Force officers searched his belongings.

ABF Commander Investigations Mark Antill said in a statement: ‘Children are harmed by those who manufacture this abhorrent material; and people who consume child exploitation material provide the market that fuels this vile trade.

‘Through the use of intelligence and targeting techniques our trained officers actively look for people bringing child exploitation material into Australia.’

The man was remanded in Melbourne Magistrate’s Court on March 23 after he was charged with importing tier two goods, specifically child exploitation material. 

The maximum penalty for importing child abuse material into Australia is an $180,000 fine or ten years in prison – or both.
