  • Nora Quoirin was staying with family near the Malaysian town of Seremban
  • Her parents found her gone and her window open on Sunday morning
  • Nora’s mother is from Belfast and father is from France but family live in London
  • Her case is now being treated as both an abduction and a missing person case

Malaysian police are treating the disappearance of a British schoolgirl as both an abduction and a missing person case.

Police launched a search with sniffer dogs in a bid to find Nora Quoirin, who was on a two-week ‘trip of a lifetime’ with her family at a resort in Seremban, near Kuala Lumpur, when she disappeared.

The 15-year-old, who suffers with learning difficulties, has been missing since yesterday night, when her parents found her hotel room at the Dusun Resort empty with the window open.

The Lucie Blackman Trust (LBT), which is supporting the family, said police were heavily deployed in both search and investigative roles in the resort and surrounding areas, as police treated the case as both a missing person and an abduction.

Nora Quoirin, 15, from London, has disappeared while on holiday with family in Malaysia

It is not yet clear if Nora left her hotel room of her own accord or whether she was taken.

Her devastated uncle posted on social media yesterday: ‘Any friends with connections in Malaysia pls get in touch if you think you can help in any way, my niece (Nora Quoirin, right) has gone missing in Seremban an hour or so from KL.

‘She is 15 with special needs, and hasn’t been seen since everyone went to bed last night.’

Nora, whose mother is originally from Belfast and father from France, is understood to have been travelling on an Irish passport, but has lived with her family in London for several years.

Family friend Catherine Cook said: ‘It’s out of character for Nora to go wandering off.’

She added: ‘I’m a mother and I burst into tears just hearing this story.

‘I cannot imagine the hell that they are living right now. I just ask for anyone who can help them to do so as soon as possible.

‘To my knowledge the French government and the Irish government are helping them and it would be great if other agencies or governments worldwide could support them.’

The town of Seremban is on the edge of a rain forest and around an hour south of the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpar.
