Malcolm Turnbull takes another swipe at Tony Abbott

‘The best place for former PMs is out of the Parliament’: Malcolm Turnbull takes one final swipe at Tony Abbott – before revealing what he REALLY thinks about being forced out of office

  • Malcolm Turnbull issued a stinging statement to his constituents in Wentworth
  • Made thinly-veiled reference to Tony Abbott – saying PMs should quit Parliament
  • Mr Turnbull called leadership spill a ‘malevolent and pointless week of madness’

Malcolm Turnbull has taken a swipe at Tony Abbott in a Facebook post slamming rebel MPs for ousting him from office.

The former prime minister apologised to his constituents in Wentworth, calling the leadership spill ‘a malevolent and pointless week of madness’.

After calling the likes of Peter Dutton and Mr Abbott ‘wreckers’ in his final speech as Prime Minister, he targeted the pair again.

‘I don’t want to dwell on recent shocking and shameful events – a malevolent and pointless week of madness that disgraced our Parliament and appalled our nation,’ he said.

‘As you know, I have always said that the best place for former PMs is out of the Parliament, and recent events amply demonstrate why.’

Mr Turnbull is expected to stand down as MP for Wentworth on Friday, forcing a by-election that could see the Coalition lose its majority in the House of Representatives.

A new poll, released today, showed that the Liberals and Labor are polling at 50/50 as support for the Liberals under new Prime Minister Scott Morrison collapses.

More to come.
