A former University of California student has been accused of impersonating a doctor at a children’s hospital.

Ariya Ouskouian, 23, of Irvine was charged Tuesday with providing medical diagnosis while impersonating a medical doctor.

Ouskouian pretended to be a doctor on at least seven occasions at Children’s Hospital of Orange (CHOC), between April 23 and June 4 of this year, authorities say.

He even gave medical advice to a patient suffering from a growth on his neck, last May, in a consult room at the University of California, CBS Local reports.

Investigators say that each time Ouskouian entered CHOC, he would tell security personnel he had lost his security badge and requested a temporary one to get access to restricted floors of the hospital.

Hospital staff finally became suspicious when Ouskouian gave them a false name of a staff member.

Employees immediately called the police and alerted other local hospitals and Ouskouian was arrested Tuesday.

Police do not believe the 23-year-old had any other contact with patients aside from the one patient he diagnosed in May. They don’t believe he accessed patient records.

It still isn’t clear why Ouskouian posed a doctor.

He was being held in the Orange County Jail but posted $20,000 bond on Wednesday.

The former student could face 11 years behind bars if convicted.
