Soon to be father-of-two, 27, who was killed in a tragic crash was planning to propose to his pregnant partner next month

  • Father-of-one Ben Carle was driving to work when he crashed into a power pole
  • The 27-year-old ‘caring’ dad was rushed to hospital but did not survive the crash
  • He was planning to propose to his lover of two years next month on her birthday
  • Terrianne Peterkin, his partner also aged 27, is pregnant with their second child

A father-of-one never got to propose to his pregnant partner or meet his second child, after he was killed in a car accident in northern Adelaide.

Ben Carle was driving to work in a Ford Sedan when he crashed into a power pole on Coventry Road near the intersection of Athol Road at about 4.30am on Tuesday.

The 27-year-old, who was described as ‘the most caring person in the world’ by his partner Terrianne Peterkin, died after being rushed to hospital.

The tradesman was planning to propose to his lover of two years next month on her 28th birthday.

Ms Peterkin remembered her partner as a selfless father who looked after their seven-month-old boy, Chester, in the middle of the night despite his early shifts.

‘[Chester] called him ”dad” just last week, Ben was really proud,’ she told The Advertiser.

‘He loves being a father and he was always home at night to spend time with us.’

Ms Peterkin, who is also 27, is seven weeks pregnant with their second child and said Mr Carle was ‘excited’ to hear the news, and hoping for a daughter.

The ‘family man’ first met Ms Peterkin at a Christmas party in December 2017, when the pair were introduced through her father.

She wasn’t initially interested in him but he ‘kept pursuing’ her and eventually persevered.

Mr Carle was also remembered as a worker who treated his colleagues like ‘friends’ instead of just ‘staff’.

‘My heart is breaking for you. Thinking of you and Chester with so much love,’ another wrote.

One added: ‘No words will heal the pain but your little man by your side will help you get through every step of the day.’
