Man, 32, is killed by a rock thrown off overpass by teens

A 32-year-old man was killed by a rock that smashed through his windshield after teenagers threw it off an overpass in Michigan. 

Kenneth Andrew White was on his way home from a construction job when tragedy struck. He was riding in the passenger seat of a van that was traveling on Interstate 75.

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office said the large rock struck the father-of-four when it came crashing through the windshield. 

White was immediately knocked unconscious. He was rushed to the Hurley Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

Officers said the incident happened just before 8.30pm on Wednesday near the Dodge Road overpass.

Two large rocks were also found on the highway.  

According to MLive, there were four other vehicles that reported hitting other large rocks on the highway.

One of those individuals was Jim Schultz who shared photos of his vehicle on Facebook, along with the rock that he hit while driving. 

‘Someone threw boulders off the overpass and I saw two come down and ran over one,’ Schultz wrote. 

Schultz said that the rock ‘ripped off’ his oil pan. He described it as 10-inch by 10-inch rock that was smaller than a basketball.

‘But the tragic thing was a van behind me had a boulder come through the window and kill the passenger,’ he added. 

Police said they believe that the rocks may have been taken from another location and thrown off the overpass. 

Schultz said he was ‘thankful to be safe’ and sent his prayers to White’s family. 

Authorities said several teens believed to be connected to the incident are in custody. 

According to WXYZ, police said the teens threw the rocks as part of a prank. Authorities did not release any more information.

The incident is being investigated as a potential homicide. 

A GoFundMe account was set up for White’s family to help with his burial. 

There is also a $2,500 reward and tipsters can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-422-5244.  

Police are urging anyone with information related to the incident, including any suspicious activity, dash cam footage or home surveillance footage, to call the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office at 810-257-3422.
