Police are investigating the death of a driver who they believe was killed after pulling over for a suspected road rage row.

Nigel Yue Bun Li was rowing with another driver when he ended up on the A19 in North Tyneside on January 3, where he was struck by a car, according to reports.

It is believed Mr Li, 32, pulled into a layby with a van driver at around 7.40am in his silver Volkswagen Golf. Also in the layby was a driver in a white Ford Transit van.

Mr Li, who was on his way to work, ended up on the main carriageway where he was hit by a black Volkswagen.

Police said the Mr Li got out his car and had a ‘disagreement’ with the other driver.

Paramedics were called but he died at the scene.

Nigel’s fiancée Kirsty Dane, 30, said she has been left with ‘so many unanswered questions’ as Northumbria Police attempt to piece together what happened.

Kirsty, who was set to marry Nigel this September in Orlando, Florida, said he always did everything ‘with a smile’.

She said: ‘He was just a really kind, funny, hard working person.

‘Everyone who met him has only good things to say about him. If you knew him you would just put that imprint in your mind of what he was like.

‘At the moment we have got so many unanswered questions. We don’t feel we can 100 percent grieve because we don’t quite know what’s happened to him.’

Nigel, from Ponteland, Northumberland, worked as a fibreglass finisher.

He enjoyed kick-boxing and had a passionate interest in cars.

His family and friends have left tributes to him online, calling him a ‘funny’ and ‘loving’ man.

Detective Inspector Dave English, from Northumbria Police, said: ‘This is a very tragic incident and our thoughts are with Mr Li’s family who are being supported by specialist officers during this difficult time.

‘We are currently trying to establish exactly what has happened and I would urge anyone who has any information or dashcam footage of either the males in the lay-by or the accident to come forward.

‘Sometimes the smallest detail can be of the greatest importance so even if it is something minor, it may be able to help officers.’

The van driver has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and released under investigation.
