Man, 33, charged with stabbing his girlfriend to death and slashing her teenage son

A man who prosecutors said fatally stabbed his girlfriend during a Christmas morning attack in Philadelphia has been charged with murder and other counts.

Josue Quino had been drinking heavily during a family house party, where there were six children between the ages of 8 and 16, police said.

Quino, 33, reportedly had been fighting with other guests before authorities say he attacked Juana Us-Perez, 35. The children witnessed at least part of the attack, and one was wounded.

Police said Quino grabbed a knife in the kitchen and stabbed Us-Perez’s 14-year-old son in the right thigh when the teen tried to disarm him. Quino then allegedly got another knife, stabbed Us-Perez and chased her outside the home.

When officers arrived minutes later, they said they found Us-Perez outside, bleeding heavily from her abdomen, and Quino standing over her. She and her son were taken to a hospital, where she died a short time later. The boy, whose name wasn’t released, remained hospitalized Thursday in stable condition.

Quino was arrested at the scene and has been charged with murder, attempted murder, making terroristic threats, aggravated assault, corruption of minors, child endangerment, reckless endangerment and possessing instruments of crime. It wasn’t known Thursday if he’s retained an attorney.

District Attorney Larry Krasner shared that he was ‘heartbroken’ by the news.

‘Heartbroken by what appears to be an act of intimate partner violence that has robbed several children of their mother,’ he said in the tweet. ‘Investigation ongoing. Meanwhile, another IPV offender is off the streets, thanks to police, court officers, ADAs working through the holidays.’

Police were called to the scene of the 5600 block of North Mascher Street in Olney just before 3.30am on Wednesday.

There they found the victim, 35, outside suffering from multiple stab wounds to the abdomen, WPVI reports. The woman was taken to a hospital and was pronounced dead.

When police arrived, they found the woman’s husband standing over her. He was immediately taken into custody.

Officers then found the 14-year-old teen inside the home with stab wounds to his thigh. He has been taken to a local hospital and is said to be in stable condition.

Police believe that an altercation started inside the couple’s home and spewed out onto the street.

The couple share six children that were inside the home and range from ages 8 to 16.

Authorities say that one of the children retrieved the murder weapon – a butcher knife with a 10-inch blade – and took it into the house to prevent any more injuries. The knife was found in a second floor bedroom.

'(They) said the 33-year-old male stabbed the 35-year-old female inside the property, chased her outside, and continued to stab her when she was outside,' Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said

The children identified the man as the stabbing suspect.

‘(They) said the 33-year-old male stabbed the 35-year-old female inside the property, chased her outside, and continued to stab her when she was outside,’ Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

All of the children were taken to police headquarters, where they were interviewed.

‘We believe all of them witnessed the incident, or at least part of the incident,’ Small added.

The husband sustained cuts to his hands. He was taken to a hospital to be treated before he was taken to police headquarters.

It is believed that the man cut his own hands while stabbing his girlfriend and the teen.

‘It’s pretty clear from the crime scene inside that everything happened initially inside. We found a crime scene on the second floor, as well as on the first floor, which consisted of a large amount of blood, there’s also broken glass, there’s also overturned furniture. So there was clearly a violent struggle inside,’ Small said.
