Man, 40, appears in court charged with the murder of missing mother-of-two, 34, who vanished after going to a petrol station two weeks ago

A man has appeared in court charged with murder after a mother-of-two went missing in Kent.

40-year-old Mark Brown, of St-Leonards-on-Sea, East Sussex, was charged following the disappearance of Alexandra Morgan.

Ms Morgan, 34, has not been seen since November 14 when she went to a petrol station near her home in Sissinghurst, Kent, at 7.20am.

The disappearance was described as completely out of character for Ms Morgan, whose family have had no contact from her since she vanished.

Mr Brown appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court today and was remanded in custody. He will appear at Lewes Crown Court tomorrow.  

Police have carried out a series of searches in the Kent and Sussex areas in an attempt to find Ms Morgan and her white Mini Cooper.

Now, Kent Police have revealed a man arrested last Thursday has been charged with murder.

Mark Brown, 40, of St-Leonards-on-Sea in East Sussex, was charged shortly before midnight on Sunday and remanded in custody ahead of his appearance at Medway Magistrates’ Court today.

A Kent Police spokesman said: ‘Mother-of-two Alexandra Morgan was last seen at a petrol station near Cranbrook at 7.20am on Sunday, November 14, and has not been in contact with her family since.

Kent Police are treating the disappearance of Alexandra Morgan as a potential murder inquiry and have said her family have not heard from her since November 14 which is ‘completely out of character.’ 

‘An investigation by officers from the Kent and Essex serious crime directorate resulted in a murder investigation being launched and Mr Brown was arrested in connection with her disappearance on Thursday, November 25.

‘Enquiries to locate Alexandra’s body remain ongoing with searches continuing in several locations.’

A 53-year-old man from Hastings arrested in connection with the case on Friday has been released without charge.

Earlier this week, Detective Chief Inspector Neil Kimber said: ‘It is completely out of character for Alexandra not to contact her family and we are now treating this case as a potential murder.

‘While we continue our investigation, I would urge anyone who may have seen Alexandra or her white Mini Cooper with a black roof to contact us.

‘If you think you may have seen Alexandra or something suspicious but are not sure, please do not hesitate to call and let us know.’
