 One man is fighting for his life and two others are also in hospital following two separate stabbings in central Sydney overnight.

A 40-year-old man is in a critical condition at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital after he was stabbed in the neck by a man known to him just after 2:30am on Sunday at Pyrmont.

A 50-year-old man is due to front Parramatta Bail Court on Sunday after being charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Police said that in a separate incident two men, both aged 24, were stabbed on Pitt Street at about 8.15pm on Saturday after an altercation with three youths.

They are being treated in hospital, one with a back injury and the other with wounds to his right arm and shoulder.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the stabbings to come forward.
