Man, 48, is charged with ‘assaulting a woman several times after kidnapping her from a bar’

  • A woman, 37, was allegedly kidnapped by a man, 48, in Newcastle on Monday
  • She was allegedly assaulted several times after she got into a car with him
  • He was arrested, charged and will face Newcastle Local court on Wednesday 

A man has been charged with assaulting a woman several times after allegedly kidnapping her from a bar.

The 48-year-old man and 37-year-old woman were seen at a licenced premises on Main Road in Newcastle’s south-west on Monday at about 9pm.

The woman was allegedly assaulted several times after she got into a Holden Commodore with the man.

The 48-year-old man has been charged with detaining a person with intent to obtain advantage occasion actual bodily harm (pictured is Waratah police station) 

The man allegedly drove to multiple areas in Newcastle before dropping her off in the Wallsend area at 2pm on Tuesday.  

She then asked a nearby business for help and reported the alleged incident to police.

The 48-year-old man was arrested and has since been charged with detaining a person with intent to obtain advantage occasion actual bodily harm.

The man was refused bail and will front Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday.
