The diver was only barely conscious when he surfaced, as his mates pulled him into a private boat and began CPR.

Volunteer Marine Rescue was called to the vessel and a volunteer paramedic jumped on board to continue CPR as the diver’s mates rushed to land.

Paramedics tried to resuscitate the man for over an hour as he was taken to Rockingham Hospital, but the diver was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police say the man was an experienced diver and had performed the same dive several times before.

A report will now be prepared for the Coroner as police investigate the cause of the man’s death.
