Man arrested after alleged kidnap of woman in Victoria

A man has been arrested after he allegedly kidnapped a woman, attacked her with a screwdriver and held her captive in a stolen car for five days.

The 34-year-old man was arrested and charged with multiple offences in Albury on Wednesday.

Police allege on December 21, the man kidnapped a woman from a home in Wodonga, Victoria. They believe the pair were known to each other.

The man drove her around in a stolen car against her will to a number of locations for five days.

He allegedly attacked her face and body with a screwdriver, causing injuries.

The woman managed to escape and notified police of the incident on Tuesday.

About 11.30 on Wednesday night the man was arrested at a home in Lavington.

During the arrest a small amount of methamphetamine was also found.

The man was taken to Albury Police Station and charged on one outstanding warrant as well as nine other offences.

They included special aggravated kidnapping, reckless wounding, assault occasioning actual bodiuly harm, choking, armed with intent, larceny, take and use conveyance, disqualified driving and possessing a prohibited drug.

He was refused bail, and appeared in Albury Local Court on Thursday.
