Man arrested over the murder of pregnant Kelly-Mary Fauvrelle in Croydon London and her baby

Detectives investigating the murder of a pregnant woman and her baby who died after being delivered by C-section at the scene have arrested a man.

Kelly-Mary Fauvrelle, 26, died after a horrific knife attack at her home in Thornton Heath, south London in the early hours of June 29.

Police were scrambled to the pregnant woman’s house by paramedics after her sister found her in her bedroom with knife wounds.

She suffered a cardiac arrest and died shortly afterwards. Medics delivered her baby, Riley, and he was rushed to hospital, but he tragically died days later on July 3.

Police this evening revealed they have arrested a 25-year-old man on suspicion of Kelly and her baby’s murders.

A Met Police spokesman said today: ‘On Thursday, 11 July, detectives investigating the murder of Kelly Mary Fauvrelle and her baby son, Riley, arrested a 25-year-old male on suspicion of murder.

‘The male has been taken to a central London police station where he remains at this time. Enquiries continue.’

Two men have already been arrested on suspicion of murder.

One, aged 37, was released with no further action, and a second, aged 29, has been released on bail until early August.

Kelly-Mary was eight months pregnant when she was knifed to death and the 65th person to be murdered in the capital so far this year.

When baby Riley died four days later, he became London’s 67th murder victim of 2019.

A man was seen on CCTV sprinting away from her home at 3.30am on June 29.

He used a communal passageway to enter the garden at around 3.15am and then got into the kitchen via an open window or unlocked door, the Met Police have said.

The victim’s mother, two brothers, sister and baby nephew were sleeping upstairs when she was knifed to death.

Her family were woken by her screams but never saw the killer who fled as they rushed downstairs and was seen sprinting away down Raymead Avenue, Thornton Heath towards Colliers Water Lane at 3.26am.

Kelly-Mary’s older sister found the victim with multiple stab wounds in the property’s dining room at the rear of the property, which had been converted into a bedroom for her and a nursery for her son whose cot was ready for him.

Riley, who was delivered by paramedics at the scene, died in hospital on July 3 with his father, who has not been named, by his side.

A crowdfunding page to raise money for a memorial to the mother of son has raised £4,500.

Any money left over from the memorial will fund anti-knife crime campaigning in the local area.

Met Police Detective Chief Inspector Mick Norman said: ‘Although clearly quieter than usual at that time of night, Kelly’s address is close to the busy London Road and there will have been a good number of people in the area at the time of the attack.

‘I am certain there will have been several crucial witnesses among them, and I need these witnesses to contact me.

‘We have, of course, been speaking to local residents through house to house enquiries and other means, and we are now returning to the scene to speak with potential witnesses who may frequent the area late on Friday and early on Saturday.

‘Please do speak with officers – either tonight near the scene or by calling the incident room – if you have seen anything that would help me find the person responsible for these two tragic deaths.

‘Among my primary aims is to identify the man seen on CCTV, walking towards the scene and then running away some 10 minutes later. I am asking members of the public to look very carefully at the footage.

‘I know there is not a clear image of the man’s face, but I am certain that somebody will recognise this man from his build, his walk, his run and so on. If you may know who he is, please contact police or Crimestoppers.

‘Equally, and perhaps less obviously, do you recall seeing anyone who could possibly be this man in Thornton Heath, Croydon or perhaps further afield last Friday night or early on Saturday morning?

‘His identity may not been known to you, but could you have seen him walking, running, on a bus, in a shop, in a takeaway or maybe you drove him as a minicab passenger? Again, if you may have information that will help us establish where he was before and after the attack, I need to hear from you.

‘Another key aim is to build a complete picture of Kelly’s life and the people with whom she was in contact. I want to hear from anyone who knew Kelly who has not yet spoken to police.’
