Man burned as lift strikes NSW powerlines

A man has been seriously burned after the scissor lift he was using struck powerlines in Sydney’s west, setting his clothes on fire.

The victim, believed to be in his 20s, was operating the lift at a worksite in St Marys on Monday morning when the machine struck the powerlines, NSW Police said in a statement.

His clothes caught fire and he was seriously burned, with NSW Ambulance paramedics treating him before he was airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital in a serious condition.

His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening but police, along with SafeWork NSW, are investigating the incident.
