Man charged after driving for 3km with a man on his ute bullbar on Centenary Drive, Homebush

Driver is charged after astonishing footage showed a terrified man clinging to the bullbar of a moving ute for 3km on Christmas Day

  • About 3.30am on Thursday, a 45-year-old man was arrested and charged  
  • Incident started when two cars got into a minor nose-to-tail crash, police said 
  • When the drivers went to exchange details, the driver of ute allegedly took off 
  • Police said driver of the other car hung onto the ute’s bullbar for 3 kilometres 

A man accused of driving down a busy road while another man clung on to his bullbar for a terrifying 3km on Christmas Day has been charged.    

Police said a Toyota Camry and Toyota Landcruiser were involved in a minor collision on Centenary Drive in Homebush, Sydney’s inner west, at 12pm on Wednesday. 

After the crash, the 37-year-old Camry driver walked towards the ute and grabbed onto the bullbars before the other man drove away, police allege. 

The man behind the wheel of the ute allegedly drove for 3km with the man hanging on the front, before he jumped off in Margaret Street, Greenacre.

The Landcruiser drove off and the incident was reported to police. 

At about 3.30am on Wednesday, a 45-year-old man was arrested and charged. 

He was charged with cause bodily harm by misconduct, in charge of motor vehicle, negligent driving, drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, and not give particulars to other driver.

He appeared at Burwood Local Court on Thursday and was granted bail, due to reappear on January 9. 

Horrific footage of the incident was filmed by passengers in a vehicle behind the ute.  

‘What the f**k, he’s dragging along the front,’ the woman in the passenger seat could be heard saying while her distressed kids screamed from the back seat. 

The family inside the car then followed the Landscruiser for the next two kilometres while they called police.
