Man charged with assault for punching anti-Trump protester

A Kentucky man has been charged with assault after he was caught on video repeatedly punching a protester more than 30 years his senior outside an Ohio rally for President Donald Trump.

Dallas Frazier, 29, of Georgetown, was arrested on Thursday night and charged with misdemeanor assault in connection to the attack on an anti-Trump protester in Cincinnati.

Frazier appeared in court on Friday and had his bond set at $10,000.

Thousands attended the Thursday rally , which included speeches by Trump, Donald Trump Jr, Gov. Mike DeWine and Vice President Mike Pence.

Trump’s speech was twice interrupted by protesters, who he seemed to blame on the city’s Democratic mayor, John Cranley.

A criminal complaint by Cincinnati police says Frazier was in a car near the protesters outside and jumped out, shouting, ‘You want some,’ before repeatedly punching 61-year-old Mike Alter in the face, breaking his glasses.

Frazier was led away by authorities as protesters chanted ‘Lock him up,’ in a play on Trump supporters’ chant of ‘Lock her up’ referring to Hillary Clinton.

In a phone interview with the station WCPO, Alter said the protest had been peaceful until Frazier pulled up to US Bank Arena in his red pickup truck and began yelling at the protesters.

Alter said some words to Frazier about he president and was struck at least three times in the head before another protester came to the victim’s defense and police rushed over to arrest the perpetrator.

‘He started just whaling on my head. I didn’t go down, for what that’s worth,’ he told the station.

Alter was taken to a hospital to be treated for a lump on his head and blurry vision.

The politically active 61-year-old said Thursday’s incident will not deter him from standing up for his beliefs.

‘I’m not going to let that guy intimidate me. Not at all,’ he told Fox 19. ‘Like that was going to shut me up. It’s done the opposite now.’

Cincinnati police Lt. Steve Saunders told WCPO that Frazier was the only person arrested Thursday night in connection to Trump’s ‘Keep America Great’ rally.

The fight broke out on the corner of East Pete Rose Way and Broadway in Cincinnati last night.

Eye witness Scott Fantozzi who captured the footage claims the physical altercation was a dispute over politics.

Last night, Trump held his first rally since his audience chanted ‘Send her back!’ about a Somali-born congresswoman during a July rally in North Carolina.

Cincinnati’s crowd offered their fair share of boos, cheers, ‘USA,’ ‘Build the wall,’ and even, at one point, returned to the 2016 campaign chant regarding Hillary Clinton – ‘lock her up.’

But they didn’t go as far as the supporters at Trump’s last outing. The president told the crowd he wanted ‘no controversy.’

‘We want no controversy,’ he said as the arena cheered his words.

Trump attacked a multitude of topics during his speech – the Democratic presidential field, former President Barack Obama, healthcare, Hillary Clinton, Democrats’ immigration policy, and former Special Counselor Robert Mueller to name a few.

He got in some cryptic hits at the ‘squad’ – the four minority Democratic lawmakers Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, Ayanna Pressley and Ilhan Omar – and at Congressman Elijah Cummings.

He didn’t mention any of them name after he has bluntly attacked them in the past month.

But he did get in a knock at ‘four left-wing extremists’ – which was seen as directed at the ‘squad.’

‘The Democratic Party is now being led by four left-wing extremists who reject everything that we hold dear,’ he said.

He then went on to argue America’s cities have paid a price for the liberal left, a likely reference to Elijah Cummings, who chairs the Oversight panel investigating Trump and his administration.

Cummings and his hometown of Baltimore have been in the president’s crosshairs in the past week.

The president was interrupted by protesters twice during his nearly 80 minutes of remarks.
