Man charged with murder after father-of-two Anmol Bajwa found dead at Mambourin playground

A man has been charged with murder after a beloved father-of-two was found dead at a children’s playground.

The body of Anmol Bajwa, 36, was found in a park near Elementary Road in Mambourin, west Melbourne, at about 7.30pm on Tuesday.

Mr Bajwa is believed to have met with an associate, whom he had helped out financially, at the park on Monday evening.

Detectives were quick to arrest Ishtpal Singh, 31, on Tuesday night and charged him with one count of murder.

Singh is expected to appear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

Mr Bajwa’s wife had alerted authorities to the 36-year-old’s disappearance when he failed to return home.

Police arrived at the park on Tuesday morning where detectives found Mr Bajwa’s body underneath a picnic table.

Singh is understood to be known to the victim.

Mr Bajwa was an Indian migrant and father of two young children, aged six and three.

His friends described him as a respected member of the local community.

‘Anmol was a source of love, light, and inspiration to everyone who had the privilege of knowing him,’ one mate said on social media.

‘His kindness, wisdom, and unwavering support will forever remain in our hearts … may his legacy live on in the lives he touched.’

Another friend said the young father had fought to forge a life for his family since moving to Australia.

‘Anmol was a community and family orientated person who worked hard to build a better life in Australia. 36-year-old only, a life too short taken away,’ he wrote.

Mr Bajwa’s brother Amandeep said he had been broken by the news of his death.

‘He’s one of my best mates, marvellous, he was everything to me,’ he said.

‘He’s a lovely person, never ever had a fight with anyone.’

A GoFundMe has been established to help Mr Bajwa’s wife and two children.

It has currently raised $17,165 of a $45,000 target.

Police have urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online.
