Man charged with stealing hundreds of avocados

A man believed to be behind a series of break-ins across in South Australia has been arrested after allegedly making off with antique clocks and hundreds of avocados.

The 29-year-old’s home was raided by officers on Thursday and police found a stash of items believed to have been looted in the Riverland raid. 

Included in the haul of alleged loot was antique clocks, building insulation and a canoe which are being reclaimed by their original owners, Adelaide Now reported.

Hundreds of avocados were also found but are yet to be claimed. 

Following his arrest the man was charged with unlawful possession and has been denied bail.

He will appear in court on Thursday afternoon. 

In 2016 around 1000 avocados were taken from a Renmark orchard and about 1500kg were stolen from trees in Barmera in 2014.
