Erling Haaland will be hugely looking forward to facing his former club Borussia Dortmund with Manchester City in the Champions League, according to Glenn Hoddle.

Pep Guardiola’s Premier League champions, who beat Dortmund 4-2 in last season’s quarter-final, were drawn alongside the Bundesliga outfit, Sevilla and FC Copenhagen in the group-stage draw on Thursday.

And former England manager Hoddle told BT Sport that Haaland, who moved from Signal Iduna Park to City for £51million this summer, will ‘love’ the opportunity to come up against his former employers.

He said: ‘He’ll be loving that draw, though, Erling, won’t he? He’ll be absolutely champing at the bit to go back there and do what he’s doing here (in England).

‘He’s just got everything, this lad, absolutely everything. There’s not one part of his game that you’re questioning.

‘What is he, 22? He’s going to get better and better and better. For £51million, that is the buy of the century.’

The Norwegian striker, one of the hottest properties in world football after scoring 86 goals in 89 games at Dortmund, has already netted three times in four games for City.

And Hoddle’s fellow pundit Joleon Lescott added: ‘Sentimental elements to that (draw), of course, but looking at him and meeting him briefly, I’m sure he’s determined to go there and score goals and win the game.

‘In terms of the competition and what that’s going to bring around that tie, they obviously worked well together – Haaland and Dortmund – so there will be a lot of sentimental elements to the game in the build-up and around on the night.

‘But both teams and players are professional, and they’ll just want an outcome for their respective team.’

Elsewhere in the draw, Tottenham have a kind draw, Liverpool face a tough test and Chelsea will face AC Milan.
