‘We see in training how good a finisher he is. Now he has to be calm and keep working.

‘We are delighted with his performance – he played really well.’

Delap’s goalscoring form has earned him comparisons to Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland, who is wanted by both City and Real.

City announced that Sergio Aguero will leave the club at the end of the campaign which could see Delap get more opportunities next season.

However, a move for Haaland could complicate Delap’s route to the first team.

Youngsters like Brahim Diaz and Jadon Sancho have left City in the past with Diaz joining Real while Sancho moved to Dortmund.
