Man City’s Erling Haaland leaves Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards in stitches after brutal putdown

Erling Haaland leaves Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards in stitches after brutal putdown, as he jokes that Thierry Henry is the ‘only one who knows how to score a lot of goals’ after the Man City forward netted FIVE against RB Leipzig

Erling Haaland couldn’t resist aiming a dig at Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards after he netted five goals in Manchester City’s 7-0 thrashing of RB Leipzig on Tuesday.

The Champions League last-16 tie appeared to be on a knife edge heading into the second leg after a 1-1 draw in Germany three weeks ago, but City produced a dominant performance with Haaland their star performer, while Ilkay Gundogan and Kevin De Bruyne also got on the scoresheet.

Haaland became only the third player after Lionel Messi and Brazilian forward Luiz Adriano to score five goals in a Champions League game, and joined Carragher, Richards and Thierry Henry to discuss his performance afterwards.

He was asked by CBS Sports Golazo presenter Jules Breach how it felt to achieve his rare goalscoring feat, to which he responded: ‘I think you are the only one that knows how to score a lot of goals!’ while looking at Henry.

Former Premier League defenders Carragher and Richards took the joke well as they immediately burst out laughing along with Henry, with the former exclaiming ‘what a start (to the interview)!’

Haaland now has 39 goals in his maiden season at City, and he reached 30 career Champions League goals in just 25 matches on Tuesday, breaking Ruud van Nistelrooy’s record by a staggering nine games.

Yet the 22-year-old has received some criticism this season for his influence on City’s style of play, with Carragher himself questioning whether Haaland had chosen the right club to bring out the best in him.

Haaland was quizzed on how he could improve, and he delivered a typically honest assessment of his game.

‘I think I can get better at everything,’ he replied.

‘I’ve been missing a lot of chances with my left foot. I was alone with the goalkeeper in the first half that I should have scored. So left foot, right foot, I have to be much better. Heading, combining, everything.

‘But if I have to take one, maybe to help the other players get better because this is something I would love. To put people in better positions, the attacking midfielders, dropping down, putting them in better positions so they come in the favourite positions they want to be in.’
