Pep Guardiola has confirmed defender John Stones will be out for ‘four to six weeks’ with the hamstring injury he suffered in Manchester City’s 2-0 win at Leicester on Saturday.

The England centre-back has become a regular fixture in City’s defence during what has been an almost perfect opening to the season in both the Premier League and Champions League.

But now Stones could miss as many as 11 matches, including the crucial Manchester derby with United on December 10 and the meeting with Tottenham on December 16.

Stones, 23, limped out of Saturday’s win at the King Power Stadium after 31 minutes and was replaced by Eliaquim Mangala.

It came after Stones played the full 90 minutes in England’s friendly internationals with Germany and Brazil the week before.

Speaking ahead of City’s Champions League meeting with Feyenoord on Tuesday, Guardiola said: ‘All of the month he will be out [December]. Hopefully he will recover well for the end of January.’
