Man dies after being crushed by rocks that fell from a cliff onto a popular Cornish beach

A man has died after being crushed by rocks that fell from a cliff on a popular beach in Cornwall.

An air ambulance has scrambled to Sandymouth Beach, in Bude, Cornwall, after rocks fell onto the man from the cliff above just before midday.

Information from the Maritime & Coastguard Agency indicates that rocks fell onto the person from above, as reported by Cornwall Live.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police has confirmed the man died in the incident.

They said: ‘We were called just before midday with reports of a cliff fall involving a man at Sandymouth Beach in Bude.’

‘Emergency services attended and sadly the man was confirmed deceased at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.

‘Coastguard and fire remain the scene and enquiries are ongoing.’ 

Emergency services are understood to still be at the scene. 

A statement from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said: ‘HM Coastguard received a call from Sandymouth Beach lifeguards at around 11.45am today (16 July) to report a rock fall involving a man at Sandymouth Beach in Bude, Cornwall.

‘Bude and Hartland Coastguard Rescue Teams, South Western Ambulance Service, Devon and Cornwall Police, Cornwall Fire and Rescue and Cornwall air ambulance were sent to the scene.’
