Man dies after ‘getting locked in a fridge on board a trawler’ in Cornwall

A man is reported to have died after getting trapped in a fridge on board a trawler in a Cornwall.

Paramedics, fire workers, and police as well as Cornwall Air Ambulance all attended the scene at Newlyn Harbour near Penzance.

Devon and Cornwall Police have not confirmed the circumstances surrounding the incident but have confirmed that a man has died. 

Witnesses say the man became locked in a fridge abroad the fishing vessel.

Three engines from the Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service, at least three police cars, an ambulance, and an air ambulance are reported to have attended.

Footage from the scene showed numerous emergency services vehicles dotted along a jetty in the harbour with their lights flashing.

Police said: ‘Police were notified at around 4.15om today to Newlyn harbour following reports of an industrial incident on board a vessel.’

The spokesman confirmed the man had died and that his next of kin have been informed.

The spokesman added: ‘The health and safety executive has been made aware. The incident is not believed to be suspicious.’
