Man is electrocuted and his girlfriend suffers shocks as he plugs in a ‘badly insulated’ phone charger in Russia

- Pair were in bed when Ms Polyshina awoke to find Matveev unable to breathe
- She called paramedics in the city of Yoshkar-Ola but he could not be saved
- Police suspect the electric cable for a phone charger was no properly insulated
A young man has been electrocuted and his girlfriend suffered shocks after he plugged in a ‘badly insulated’ phone charger in Russia.
Kirill Matveev, believed to be aged 20, was in bed with his girlfriend Mira Polyshina, 20, next to him when he was electrocuted on Monday night.
Despite Ms Polyshina’s efforts to help him breathe and summoning an ambulance to the home in Yoshkar-Ola city, paramedics were unable to save the Lada car mechanic.
Kirill Matveev, believed to be aged 20, was in bed with his girlfriend Mira Polyshina, 20, next to him when he was electrocuted on Monday night.
Police suspect that the electric cable on a charger was not properly insulated and an investigation is ongoing.

Ms Polyshina posted an emotional message reading: ‘Forgive me for not being able to save you’
The Investigative Committee in Russia’s Mari El Republic said the likely cause was ‘due to problems with the insulation of the wiring’ on the charger.
‘He put the smartphone on charge and got a shock, as did his girlfriend,’ said a spokesman.
‘The young man died at the scene.’
A video posted by his girlfriend shows the couple together, and another was a tribute by his friends to the popular Matveev.
Ms Polyshina also posted an emotional message reading: ‘Forgive me for not being able to save you.
‘I tried, I did everything to make you breathe, but even the ambulance crew could not. I love you, as you know very well … Ohhh, how painful it was to look at you then, WHEN I couldn’t save you.
