Man fakes own arrest in elaborate proposal in Cartagena

  • The video was filmed by the historic wall of the Colombian city of Cartagena
  • The unnamed man’s arrest was part of the ultimately successful stunt
  • His bride-to-be drops her phone before clasping her hands over her face

This is the moment a shocked girlfriend watched her man get arrested at a holiday destination – only for him to propose to her seconds after.

One of the more bizarre and elaborate wedding proposals, the clip shows three police officers faking the arrest of a man in Cartagena in Colombia.

The confused woman – who says she is a lawyer – is seen asking for help on the phone while also trying to persuade the cops to stop.

As the woman becomes more angry, her hubby-to-be gets down on one knee and gets out the ring while a nearby Mariachi band starts playing a song.

Overcome with emotion, the unsuspecting woman drops her phone before clasping her hands over her face.

She then kisses her partner, who then puts the ring on her finger while stunned onlookers clap and cheer.

The video – filmed outside the historic wall in Colombia’s Caribbean coastal city of Cartagena – has since gone viral.

Some people praised the originality of the clip, while others criticised the police for being in on the prank, when they should’ve been working.

One Facebook user hailed the man ‘the boyfriend of the year’.

But another said: ‘Shouldn’t they be focusing on more important things?’

Cartagena, in the northern part of Colombia, is known to be a city of romance – attracting millions of foreign tourists per year.

The colonial city has previously made headlines after it emerged that farmers were making money by allowing men to have sex with their donkeys – an age-old rural tradition.
