A man in China miraculously survived after he crashed his scooter and impaled his torso on a four-foot crash barrier. 

The incident took place in Wenling, Taizhou City in eastern China when the man Xiao Wu came off his bike. 

He suffered damage to his lung as well as several broken ribs with the long metal bar missing his heart by just one centimetre.

Doctor Zhang said: ‘The metal bar passed one centimetre under the patient’s heart.’ 

The incident occurred when Xiao Wu, 26, was carrying a friend when the scooter slammed into a metal barrier.

The pair were flung into the air with one of the dividers snapping in half and impaling Xiao Wu’s upper body.

Wu was rushed to Taizhou Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine where scans were conducted. 

Lead surgeon Zhang Rongwei said that members of the fire service were called in to help have the four-foot-long bar cut down before the operation. 

Doctor Zhang said: ‘The metal bar passed one centimetre under the patient’s heart. He was very lucky.’ 

The metal bar was removed in a three-hour-long surgery. 

Wu suffered damage to his lung as well as several broken ribs. He remains in intensive care where he is in a stable condition.
