Man held over `attempt to kidnap girl´ at Christmas fair

Man, 47, is arrested after ‘trying to abduct a six-year-old girl from a Christmas market using toys and sweets’

  • Man, 47, from Egham in Surrey, has been arrested and is in police custody
  • He allegedly tried to grab young girl on Egham High Street at 12.40pm yesterday
  • Police say he was wearing a grey cap, glasses and had a black rucksack at event 

A 47-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly attempting to kidnap a six-year-old girl at a Christmas fair.

The man is suspected of trying to grab the young girl on Egham High Street, in Surrey, at around 12.40pm Saturday, after trying to lure her with toys and sweets.

A man from Egham is currently in custody, Surrey Police said.

Officers were on the scene within minutes of the incident being reported. 

The suspect is described as white, around 5ft 9 tall and of a slight build. 

He is said to have been wearing a grey cap, a black jacket, jeans, trainers and glasses and was carrying a black rucksack.

An investigation is under way, and police have called for anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has any other information, to come forward.
