Ambulance NSW duty operations manager Dean Lassau said the man was taken to Gold Coast Hospital in a ‘serious but stable’ condition.

‘It looks like he had a piece of wood that is embedded into the right side of his chest and it was very painful.’

Mr Lassau said it wasn’t clear if the man was wearing safety gear.

‘The man was going over a jump at the time when the incident happened.’

He said the V-shaped branch penetrated 7cm in the right side of the man’s chest, and they suspected he had a collapsed lung.

A Gold Coast Hospital spokeswoman said the man is in a stable condition.

Mr Lassau said trail-bike riders should wear appropriate clothing and helmets while riding.
