Gunfire erupted in the middle of a St. Louis street on New Year’s Eve, causing one man to duck for cover as he filmed a video with his cell phone from his living room window.

The unidentified resident said he decided to stick his phone out the window Sunday night to record ‘what happens every year.’

In the video, a red car with its lights on is seen reversing out of a parking spot as the sound of gunfire rips through the air. At one point bullets fly dangerously close to the man filming.

‘At 7 seconds you can hear the bullets wiz by my head that made me duck,’ he captioned the video, posted to Live Leak. ‘I think they were fired from the red car that speeds off. Hello 2018.’

As the red car flies down the street the sound of gunfire seems to move further away. According to the man filming, the incident happened in south St. Louis.

It’s not clear who or what was being targeted.

A police spokeswoman told the Daily Mail that officers would need to verify whether the incident happened in the City of St. Louis before an investigation was launched.

St. Louis is already off to a deadly New Year. Police chief John Hayden said two men were killed in a double homicide Sunday evening in a shooting on Kennerly Avenue.

The man filming said he thinks the gunfire was coming from a red car, which was seen speeding away

Hayden said residents in the area reported hearing gunfire and saw a vehicle crash into a lamppost, according to Fox 2 St. Louis. When officers arrived, they found two men shot to death.

Investigators said a pistol and shell casings were found inside the car which indicates that the two victims engaged in a gunfight with whoever fired at them. So far, no arrests have been made.

‘It’s unknown who the suspects are at this time,’ Hayden said. ‘They were certainly west of where the car came to a rest but it’s undetermined if there was another car involved.’

It’s not clear if the video is related to the double homicide.
