A man who turned up to a pool party with a rifle because he said the music was too loud has been arrested for assault and child abuse.

52-year-old Richard J. Savage heard the noise coming from the community pool in his Florida apartment in the Columns at Cypress Point.

Around 8pm he pointed the weapon at the group of pool-goers, telling them to ‘turn that s**t down’, the Pasco County sheriff’s office alleged.

Robert Rodriguez said he was playing music from his truck for his family and co-workers when Savage appeared with a gun on Sunday night.

‘I just froze, I honestly froze,’ Mr Rodriguez told Fox 13.

‘Probably about five minutes into it, my sister screams out,’ he recounted.

‘I just turned around and the guy was standing there with a weapon pointed directly at me.’

Pasco County deputies arrived on the scene to find Savage carrying a rifle.

They also alleged he racked the slide and pointed it at the group, demanding they ‘shut it down’ before he headed back inside.

Among the pool party attendees, young children including 10-year-old Keiliany Diaz were at the party.

‘I was in shock mode, why would someone do that for music?’ she asked. ‘You could’ve gotten killed at that moment.’

Savage later admitted pointing the rifle at the group because they wouldn’t turn down the music.

He was charged with three counts of aggravated assault and and three counts of child abuse.

His bond has been set for $30,000.
