Man narrowly escapes death after he is ‘shot with a speargun that nearly pierced his heart’ outside a home in an exclusive Sydney suburb

A 48-year-old Sydney man is lucky to be alive after being shot with a speargun that nearly pierced his heart on Friday.
Emergency services removed the man from a car on Coonanga Road in Avalon Beach, on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, about 5pm.
The man was airlifted by helicopter to the Royal North Shore Hospital an hour later and remains in a stable condition.
A police spokeswoman told Daily Mail Australia the incident was targeted, and the injured man and the suspect are known to each other.
‘The spear narrowly missed his heart. He is expected to be released from hospital later today,’ she said.
Police have spoken to the injured man and are still trying to determine why the assault happened.

It’s understood the man was hit with the spear at a separate location before driving his silver SAAB to a house in Avalon Beach.
The Ambulance Service of NSW told Daily Mail Australia four crews were called to the scene around 4.45pm.
The speargun shaft was lodged 5cm inside his left abdomen.
Emergency crew members had to cut off part of the spear before he was moved to an ambulance.

Ambulance services said the man was conscious and breathing, suffering relatively minor wounds.
He was driven to Barrenjoey High School before being taken away in the helicopter.
Officers from Northern Beaches Police Area Command established a crime scene and a police operation is underway to locate the person responsible.
Initial inquiries suggest the injured man had been shot outside a nearby home on North Avalon Road.
As inquiries continue, officers are currently seeking a man they believe can assist with their inquiries.
The man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, 190cm tall, with a slim build and dreadlocks.
He was last seen wearing a blue jumper and dark jeans.
The public is urged not to approach the man, but if he is seen contact Triple Zero (000).
