Nabata’s 47-year-old son was visiting his father’s house on Saturday when he saw the horrific scene of his grandmother lying dead and decayed on the mattress, according to Japan Today.

The next day, police tracked Nabata to a hot spring complex and detained him.

Nabata’s son was supposed to be spending time with his father and grandmother for Japan’s Golden Week celebrations – a 10-day holiday starting on April 29 that used to be mark the birthday of Emperor Showa who died in 1989.
