Man kills his wife and mother-of-two with an AX then stabs himself to death in grisly murder-suicide

  • Police in Pennsylvania say Daniel Arangio, 58, killed his wife, 47-year-old Valerie Arangio, by striking her in the head with an ax

A Pennsylvania a man killed his wife with an ax in their Luzerne County home and then took his own life by stabbing himself to death over the weekend.

According to police, troopers were called to the Exeter Township home at around 2pm on Sunday and found the bodies of the couple.

Police said 58-year-old Daniel Arangio slayed 47-year-old Valerie Arangio ‘by striking her in the head with an ax.’

They said the man then ‘committed suicide by a self-inflicted stab wound.’

Valerie’s lifeless body was found in a bedroom of the home on Rohland Lane, while her husband was found dead in a bathroom. Troopers said the deaths occurred sometime between Saturday and Sunday.

According to the wife’s Facebook page, she and Daniel got married in July 2016. Photos and posts indicate that she has a son who is about to turn 14 next month, an older daughter and a granddaughter.

Valerie was charged with harassment in February after allegedly scratching Daniel's forearm during a fight, but was acquitted in April

Court records obtained by Scranton Times-Tribune reveal that the husband had a single traffic ticket, which was dismissed last year.

His wife, however, was charged with harassment in February after allegedly scratching Daniel’s forearm during a fight.

The wife and mother was ultimately found not guilty of the charge at trial that took place in April.

It is unclear where Valerie’s teenage son had been staying over the weekend. 

Neighbors tell WNEP Daniel and Valerie kept to themselves and were not close to anyone in the small community.
