A man from Los Angeles, California has shared the story of his recent proposal to his now-fiancée — using a ring he bought three and-a-half years ago, when they’d just begun dating.
Elan Gale, 36, knows romance — after all, he’s a producer on ABC’s The Bachelor. So when he proposed to actress Molly C. Quinn last week, it was a truly swoon-worthy event.
In a viral Twitter thread, Elan has explained how he popped the question with a gorgeous emerald ring that he’d been hiding for three and-a-half whole years, having purchased it after Molly admired it in a store just six months after they started seeing each other.
She said yes! The Bachelor producer Elan Gale, 36, popped the question last week to actress Molly C. Quinn in Japan
Flashback: He shared the incredible story on Twitter, starting with the time Molly pointed out a ring she liked just eight months after they started dating
What a romantic! Elan returned without her to secretly buy the ring
So sneaky! He hid it in a box, not knowing when he’d use it but pretty convinced that he would some day
She never knew! He kept it behind their bed but Molly never suspected
‘Three and a half years ago, Molly and I took a trip to Seattle,’ he began. ‘We had only been dating for about eight months, but we were already very much in love.
‘While there, we popped into a vintage jewelry shop just for the hell of it. At one point, Molly put an emerald ring on her finger.
‘She looked at me and said, “If you ever decide to propose to me, try to find a ring that looks something like this.” I understood. It matched her eyes.
‘Anyway, the very next day, I snuck back to the shop and bought that exact ring. And then I hid it.
‘I hid it in a small box that I kept behind our bed, mostly full of receipts and menus, nothing really interesting. When I put it in the box I had no plan and truly no idea for how and when I would open that box again.
The lovebirds: The Hollywood couple has been together for over four years
Destination proposal: Last week, he took the ring on a trip to Japan
The big moment: On December 19, they went skiing together in Hokkaido
Drum roll please… Elan was nervous as he paused to prepare for the big moment
Setting the mood: He took her hands as the snow fell down around them
Knows what he’s doing: He had a romantic speech prepared, too
So exciting! Finally, he asked her to marry him
Yes! Of course, she said yes, and the two shared a kiss in the snow
‘For three years, Molly and I slept in bed with that box about two feet from us every single night. Molly thought that the ring had been lost to the sands of time.
‘I knew it was only just a matter of time,’ he said.
‘A few days ago, we got on a flight to Japan, one of our favorite places in the world. For the first time in three years, the ring came with me
‘Yesterday, on a beautiful, snowy day in Hokkaido, I put the ring in my pocket as we went out to ski. I was nervous, terrified, on the verge of shitting myself for a few hours, not because of what she might say, but because I wanted to make sure I made the moment special for her
‘Halfway down a run, I asked her to stop a take a picture. We did. I took off my skis and she said “Why are you taking your skis off? What are you doing? Let’s go.”
‘So I took her by the hands and looked her straight in the eyes and I said “Molly, it’s happening.”
A stand-out for sure! Molly showed off the nontraditional emerald ring in photos
Perfect! Molly is pictured showing off the ring after the proposal
What a story! Elan’s thread has gone viral and they’ve received lots of well wishes
Photobombed: Though they got some stunning pictures, they were in the middle of a run
The couple is still vacationing in Japan, including a stop in Tokyo
‘I reached into my pocket and pulled out the ring. I got down on one knee and told her how much I loved her, how much she improves every single moment of my life, and how impossible it is for me to envision going on without her.
‘I asked her to marry me. And she said yes.’
Elan proudly showed off photos of the proposal, with him down on one knee as snow fell around them. Molly showed off the ring in another shot, a big green sparkler.
She also posed a picture of her own, writing: ‘We are engaged and in love and cold!!!!! Our tears of joy froze on our faces!!
‘It would be impossible to express how happy we are right now. We have each other, our friends and family, and we also have all of you, many of whom have been with us for our entire relationship,’ Elan added.
