Man shot dead by police in rural Queensland

A man, believed to be in his 30s, was shot and killed by a Queensland police officer on Friday night.

Police were called to the home in Norman Gardens, Rockhampton, at about 7.10pm.

The officers were attending the home on Geoff Wilson Drive because of reports of an alleged domestic dispute between the man and his partner.

Officers tried to speak to the man but when they arrived he came outside and threatened them, according to the ABC.

Reports suggest the man was armed inside the home, according to the publication.

One of the officers then shot the man, who was in a critical condition when paramedics arrived.

However they could not save him and the man died at the home. 

Jordan Peacock, a neighbour, told the Today Show that he didn’t know what was going on but he heard two gunshots and sirens.

An investigation into what happened has been launched by the Ethical Standards Command on behalf of the State Coroner.

The Crime and Corruption Commission will also have a hand in the investigation.
